Yet another reason why Michel Gondry is a hero.

I was reading in a magazine not too long ago that this was done in reverse. The beginning of the video is in forward play, but there is a cut before he begins to solve the puzzle. It would be similar to his video for Beck, where he ties strings to the backs of his shoes and to his feet, then walks backwards. When played in reverse it looks like the shoes are walking in front of him. Who knows if this Rubics video really is in reverse or not... it wouldn't surprise me if it was, but either way it is still a genius idea. He always does the simplest things that are so great... always leaving me wishing, "damn, why the hell didn't i think of that?"

Anyone who hasn't watched the Michel Gondry Directors Reel DVD really should... and not even the videos (which are amazing as well) but the behind the scenes commentary. He talks about his thought process and where the ideas for the videos came to him from. So insanely inspiring.

Yah it is done in reverse.

PS. If you want to see some really crazy stuff watch him solve a rubicks cube with his nose.

wow! I actually believed that he solved it when I was it the first time. Quite sneaky. How he manipulates the video to create a seamless stream of an ordered playback is incredible.

Just another example of something i thought was amazing at first but had to have it spoiled somehow. This seems to be the case a lot of the time when something seems to good to be true, it is analyzed, broken down and then if possible portrayed as a lie or fake. I am a big fan of the mysterious and optical illusions( altered digitally or not ) This may not be an example of an optical illusion but it definitely has characteristics that fool the eye visually with subtle points in which the trained eye might spot inconsistencies.
